HOLLYWOOD — Relocating with their stable of comedy clients, managers Dave Rath and Kara Welker have ankled their posts at 3 Arts Entertainment to launch independent management and production shingle the Rath Welker Co.
Shingle will service both established and up-and-coming comedians and writers, including Janeane Garofalo (“Big Trouble”), Patton Oswalt (“Zoolander”), Jeff Richards (“Saturday Night Live”) and others.
Rath Welker has also inked production arrangements with Troy Miller’s Dakota North Entertainment (“Mr. Show”) and Jon Steingart and Jenny Wiener’s Gotham-based legit and film company Mosaic Entertainment.
Relationship offers clients production resources for developing TV and film projects, as well as a venue for live shows. Conversely, the shingle will bolster the production slates for both Dakota and Mosaic by putting new projects in their pipelines.
“The combined resources of a diverse talent company, an experienced production company and a vibrant New York-based theater company should generate many project ideas,” Rath told Daily Variety.
In addition to managing, Rath and Welker both plan to increase their roles as producers. In the past, Rath and Welker produced “Comedy Product” for Comedy Central, hosted by Garofalo, as well as several live shows including Garofalo’s HBO specials.
Welker will spearhead comedy development at Mosaic’s Ars Nova Theater in New York, which bows in January. Its inaugural show will be Second City’s “Hamlet: The Musical” written and directed by Jeff Richmond (“Dratch & Fey”).
Rath Welker will maintain offices in L.A. with Dakota and Mosaic in New York.
