Helmer Takashi Koizumi’s “After the Rain” swept seven prizes at the 24th Japan Academy Awards in Tokyo Friday.
The pic, the last script by veteran filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, premiered at the 56th Venice Intl. Film Festival as a tribute to the filmmaker who died in 1998.
“Rain” won best picture, script, male actor (Satoshi Terao), supporting actress (Mieko Harada), music (Masaru Sato), lighting (Takeharu Sato) and artwork (Yoshiro Kimura). The director prize went to Junji Sakamoto for “Kao” (Face).
