Dennis Higgins is joining Miramax Films as senior vice president and co-head of publicity, replacing Marcy Granata, who ankled the studio over the summer. Higgins, to be based in Gotham, will share the job with Los Angeles-based Janet Hill, who has held the post solo since Granata’s departure.
Higgins, who reports directly to Miramax co-chairman Harvey Weinstein, joins Hill and Dan Scheffey, senior veep of publicity, in supervising the studio’s publicity department — overseeing field promotions, special events and audiovisual personnel. But Higgins’ main job will be in the theatrical arena, where Miramax’s upcoming slate includes “Gangs of New York,” “Serendipity,” “Iron Monkey,” “The Shipping News,” “In the Bedroom” and “Amelie.”
“We’re excited to be working with a publicity veteran with Dennis’ professional experience,” said Weinstein. “He’s worked on blockbusters as well as successful specialized films, and it’s not often you get a chance to put together a team like he and Janet.”
“When I look at Miramax’s track record, particularly in the creative publicity and marketing of films, there is no opportunity like this one,” said Higgins.
Higgins had been a senior veep of publicity at Columbia Pictures, his home for the past 11 years. Before that he held the top Gotham publicity post at both 20th Century Fox and MGM/UA.
