“Cast Away,” “Gladiator,” “Mission: Impossible 2,” “The Perfect Storm,” “Space Cowboys,” “U-571,” and “Unbreakable” are the seven films being considered for this year’s sound editing Oscar statuette.
Ten-minute clips from each will be screened for the sound editing award nominating committee on Feb 6. Members may nominate up to three of the seven films for Oscar consideration, or recommend a single film for a special achievement award, or recommend that no award be given in this category.
In other Oscar news, Danette Herman will be executive in charge of talent for the 73rd annual Academy Awards, her 17th year with the show. Also, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present an Award of Commendation to the creators of the Trailer Audio Standards Association’s (TASA) Trailer Loudness Standard, a volume criterion for sound balance between trailers and feature presentations.
Noms will be announced at 5:30 a.m. PST Feb. 13. The Oscar kudocast is skedded for March 25 at L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium.
