MADRID — Lena Olin has been cast opposite Anna Paquin in “Darkness,” an upcoming psychological scarer written and directed by Jaume Balaguero (“Nameless”).
Pic is produced by Spanish mini-major Filmax and will be distributed in all English-language territories by Dimension. The Miramax genre label also holds U.S. rights to “Nameless.”
Set in and around Barcelona, Spain, the English-lingo pic will shoot in the country starting Thursday.
Also joining the cast are Iain Glen (“Tomb Raider”), Giancarlo Giannini (“Hannibal,” “Mimic”), Spaniards Fele Martinez (“Open Your Eyes”) and Fermi Reixach (“Faust”), and child actor Stephan Enquist.
In “Darkness” Olin plays Maria, a mother of a family that moves to a remote house in the countryside. The house is a gloomy place, haunted by a dark mystery.
Pic continues the ongoing relationship between Miramax and Olin, who most recently appeared in “Chocolat.” Olin, repped by ICM, is the spouse of that pic’s director, Lasse Hallstrom, who has a deal with the mini-major.
