SYDNEY — Miramax Intl. and Roadshow Film Distributors, its longtime Australian distrib, have hit a bump in the road.
After handling such Miramax releases as “Scary Movie,” “Chocolat,” “Reindeer Games” and “Spy Kids,” Roadshow won’t be releasing the next batch of titles from Disney’s mini-major.
Package, which includes “Scary Movie 2,” “The Shipping News” and “Serendipity,” will go out in Oz via Miramax sister company Buena Vista Intl.
“We failed to reach an agreement,” RFD chairman Ian Sands told Daily Variety Monday in a terse comment.
BVI is releasing Miramax trio “Malena,” “Dracula 2000” and “Bounce” after RFD opted not to chase those titles. But exhibs were expecting the forthcoming big-ticket slate headed by the “Scary Movie” sequel to go out via the Roadshow banner — until they saw BVI’s upcoming lineup issued Friday.
