'Plague Season' gets U.K. distribution

LONDON — U.K. distrib Momentum Pictures has picked up four movies from Intermedia, marking the start of a new relationship between the two companies.

The slate consists of Ron Shelton’s “The Plague Season,” a police thriller starring Kurt Russell, “Wisegirls,” a thriller starring Mariah Carey, the 1998 comedy “Clay Pigeons,” starring Joaquin Phoenix, and hip-hop documentary “Scratch.”

The U.K. has been one of the toughest territories for Intermedia to place its movies, so this new link with Momentum, which is owned by Canada’s Alliance Atlantis, is particularly significant.

Separately, Momentum has acquired all U.K. rights to “Down From The Mountain,” a feature-length music doc inspired by the soundtrack to “O Brother, Where Art Thou,” which Momentum released last year. The pic was sold by Jane Balfour on behalf of producer International Films.
