In a low-six-figure deal, Miramax has optioned spec “Top Banana” from comedians Patton Oswalt and Brian Posehn.
“Banana” centers on three struggling comics who enter a comedy competition in a last-ditch attempt at fame.
Ben Stiller and his producing partner, Stuart Cornfeld, are attached to produce the pic via Stiller’s Red Hour Films. Michael Aguilar will also produce, with Lauren Shuler Donner exec producing.
Stiller and Red Hour recently set up Oswalt-penned “Puberty” at New Line Cinema (Daily Variety, Oct. 19). No talent has been attached to the laffer, which follows a man who goes through a belated pubescence.
An actor, writer and standup comic, Oswalt has a recurring role on CBS’ “The King of Queens” and recently finished a blind script commitment for Scott Rudin Prods.
Also a multihyphenate talent, Posehn co-wrote Dakota Films “Run Ronnie Run” with Bob Odenkirk, David Cross, BJ Porter and Scott Aukerman. New Line recently purchased the pic, which is tentatively skedded for an April release. Posehn was also a scribe on comedy series “Mr. Show” and appears regularly on NBC’s “Just Shoot Me.”
Both Oswalt and Posehn are repped by the William Morris Agency and Rath-Welker Management.
