KUALA LUMPUR — After making its mark in TV by producing provocative dramas for the TV3 network for the past seven years, Kuasatek Pictures is tackling the bigscreen with “Mr. Cinderella.”
A romantic comedy toplining local movie queen Erra Fazira as well as Ahmad Idhah (who’s also the director) and Yusry Abdul Halim of pop group KRU, the pic rolled out Oct. 8.
Title is similar to Kuasetek’s hugely popular “Cinderella” miniseries of two years ago, but the projects aren’t related. Mohd Noor Kadir, Kuasatek’s boss who wrote the script and is producing the pic, tells Variety he chose that moniker to arouse people’s curiosity.
In the pic, Yusry plays a divorcee who saves Princess Megawati (Erra) after her car crashes into a tree. After the accident, the pair eventually fall in love.
Budget, funded in part by government agency National Malaysian Film Industry, is roughly $360,000.
