‘Man’ tops Machine slate sales

Horror pic licensed in more than 40 territories

CANNES — Good Machine Intl. has sold Joel and Ethan Coen’s Cannes competition entry “The Man Who Wasn’t There” to Buena Vista Intl. for release in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Latin America.

The pic, fully financed by USA Films, now has been licensed in more than 40 territories.

It has been picked up by BAC Films in France, Constantin in Germany, Medusa in Italy, Sogepaq in Spain, Asmik Ace in Japan and Entertainment in the U.K.

The few unsold territories include South Korea and Taiwan.

GMI also has made a strong start on sales of Robert Harmon’s “They,” the first pic under its new relationship with Ted Field’s Radar Pictures.

The horror pic has been sold to 14 territories including France (BAC), Spain (Lauren), Germany (Concorde) and the U.K. (Entertainment).

GMI has completed sales on Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman’s “Adaptation,” including deals with BAC in France, Asmik Ace in Japan and Lauren Films in Spain.

Edward Burns’ “Ash Wednesday” also has sold out, picked up by Eagle in Italy, BAC in France, Lauren in Spain and Helkon SK (formerly Redbus) in the U.K.

Gregor Jordan’s “Buffalo Soldiers” has been picked up by distribs in more than 20 territories, again including BAC in France and Lauren in Spain. Sandrew Metronome has taken the pic in Scandinavia and Paradiso in Benelux.

Lauren has bought “In the Bedroom” and “Session 9” from GMI.

Other distribs that have acquired a package of GMI pics include Shani Films from Israel, Greece’s Rosebud, Singapore’s Shaw Renters, Iceland’s Skifan, Discovery in the former Yugoslavia and Italia Film in the Middle East.
