Madstone taps Wrubel

Will o'see pickups of indie pics, libraries

Susan Wrubel, a former exec at New Yorker and October, is joining Madstone Films as VP of film acquisitions.

She will oversee pickups of indie pics, libraries and in-theater events for the Madstone Digital Distribution Network.

Founded in 1999, Gotham-based Madstone is known for emphasizing digital technology in both filmmaking and distribution. Along with acquisitions, the company is developing original pics, including some from an inhouse roster of directors.

At New Yorker Films, Wrubel served as VP of theatrical distribution and acquisitions, handling pics by such helmers as Werner Herzog, Krzysztof Kieslowski and Abbas Kiarostami. At October Films, she was director of theatrical sales and marketing. She held the same post at Cinepix Film Properties, now Lions Gate Releasing.

“Susan has the perfect sensibility for Madstone audiences,” asserted CEO Tom Gruenberg.
