LISBON — Alejandro Gonzalez Inaturri’s bittersweet “Amores Perros,” Mexico’s Academy Award candidate for best foreign-language film, scooped the grand prize, director and screenplay kudos at Portugal’s 21st Fantasporto Oporto Intl. Film Festival.
Korea’s “The Isle” by Kim Ki-duk was awarded the special jury prize and actress for femme lead Suh Jong. Fest, which closed Tuesday, clocked up a record 110,000 admissions.
Other top films were Mark Berman’s “Purely Belter” (U.K.), winner of Fantasporto’s Directors’ Week; “Shadow of the Vampire,” from Elias E. Merhige, which took actor kudos for Willem Dafoe; and Harry Sinclair’s “The Price of Milk” (New Zealand), awarded the critics’ prize.
