Lakeshore logs onto ‘Purpose’

Internet drama stars Farrow, Reiser, Holbrook

Lakeshore International has acquired all worldwide rights to the dot-com drama “Purpose” from Earth Magic Pictures. Lakeshore will be introducing pic at upcoming Mipcom and Mifed.

Pic, starring Mia Farrow, Paul Reiser and Hal Holbrook and directed by first-timer Alan Lazar, is the story of a brilliant Stanford U student who develops a software program that revolutionizes the Internet and turns him into an instant millionaire. Lured astray by fame, greed and power, the student then almost loses everything when his company becomes the target of a hostile takeover. Jeffrey Donovan and Peter Coyote round out the cast.

Project, scripted by Lazar with Ronnie Apteker, Saki Missaikos and Thomas W. Roush, is based on Apteker’s firsthand knowlege of the Internet biz. Apteker founded Internet Solutions, the first commercial Internet venture in South Africa.

Apteker, Lazar and Michael S. Murphey share producing credits.
