PRAGUE — The Karlovy Vary Film Festival will open its 36th edition with the world premiere of “An American Rhapsody” by Hungarian-born American director Eva Gardos.
Actress Nastassja Kinski is expected to attend the July 5 gala screening. In the film, Kinski plays a mother who has a troubled relationship with her daughter. Kinski drew plaudits from fest attendees for her performance in last year’s competition film “The Magic of Marciano.”
Controversial Spanish director Bigas Luna is also expected to attend, introducing a retrospective of his films.
The festival will also screen Jean-Luc Godard’s eight-part “Histoire(s) du Cinema.”
Fest runs through July 14.
