Judges set for screenplay competition

BAFTA to produce, screen and promote winning piece

HOLLYWOOD — Producers Nik Powell (“The Crying Game,”) Leslee Udwin (“East Is East) and thesp Charles Dance will be among the judges for the British Short Screenplay Competition.

The winning screenplay will be produced and premiered at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts next year in front of an invited audience of producers, directors, actors, agents and writers. The film will also be shown in selected U.K. cinemas as well as being entered into international film festivals. No other screenplay contest in the world offers the winner such a prestigious prize.

The British Short Screenplay Competition launched in June is sponsored by industry giants Fuji Films, Kodak, Lee Lighting, Panavision, Pinewood Studios, and Soho Images.

The closing date for entries is Jan. 11. The winner will be announced on Kaos Films Web site in April. For details and entry forms check www.kaosfilms.co.uk.
