Intermedia ‘Happily’ laffs at reality in spec pick-up

Johnson to shepherd pic, Golden to oversee development

Intermedia is now leaving Pleasantville.

Company has acquired the self-referential romantic comedy spec “Happily Ever After” from the writing team of Kristen Buckley and Brian Regan (“102 Dalmatians”).

Mark Johnson (“My Dog Skip”) is producing the pic, which was brought into the company by worldwide production prexy Tiffany Daniel and has been overseen by her and development director, Kira Goldberg.

Laffer is ultimately genre-bending, following the exploits of a character from a romantic comedy who is suddenly thrust into the “real” world.

“Of course, in romantic comedies,” said Buckley, “you can always catch a cab, you never have to pay rent on a fabulous New York city apartment, and homeless people are always clever and sweet. And in this new real world, she finds that all that isn’t true: She’s five months behind on rent, the homeless aren’t cute or funny, and the world isn’t colorblind.”

Pic’s development is being overseen by Intermedia exec veepee of production Julie Golden.

Buckley and Regan were repped in the deal by Endeavor.
