Indigo eyes mystery spoof

Teutonic co. plans 'Der Wixer' series based on pix, Wallace novels

BERLIN — Following the huge box office success of “Der Schuh des Manitu,” Constantin’s spoof of 1960s German Westerns, local player Indigo is looking to lampoon another popular Teutonic film series.

Company is planning to produce “Der Wixer,” based on a series of German film adaptations from the 1960s that were based on the mystery novels of British author Edgar Wallace.

TV personality/comedian Oliver Kalkofe is developing the pic.

“Der Schuh des Manitu” is a send-up of locally produced oaters based on the novels of German author Karl May. Unlike traditional Hollywood Westerns of the time, the Indians were usually the good guys in the German pics.

“Der Schuh des Manitu” beat out U.S. competition like “Evolution” and “Dogs & Cats” to take the No. 1 spot at the box office here last weekend, garnering north of $5 million.
