Independent Vision Award to honor Bill Nisselson

NEW YORK — The Independent Feature Project has added a one-time nod — the Independent Vision Award — to this year’s Gotham Awards program to honor Bill Nisselson, the late chief operating officer and studio manager of Sound One.

Nisselson’s widow, Susan Diederich, will accept the award at an Oct. 1 ceremony in Manhattan. Nisselson died last month .

“It is individuals like Bill, working within the film community’s infrastructure, who have enabled New York’s independents to see their visions make it onto the screen,” said IFP exec director Michelle Byrd. “He will be sorely missed.”

At Sound One, Nisselson oversaw sound mixing and editing on films by helmers including Woody Allen, Joel and Ethan Coen, Jonathan Demme, Nora Ephron, Milos Forman, Lasse Hallstrom, Jim Jarmusch, Ang Lee, Spike Lee, Mike Nichols, D.A. Pennebaker, John Sayles and Martin Scorsese.
