IFP/West executive director Dawn Hudson announced Thursday the participants for its first Directors Lab, an intensive seven-week program designed to help indie directors improve their craft.
The program will begin March 12 with Allison Anders, writer-director of “Things Behind the Sun,” as the lab instructor.
“I am very excited about this lab,” Anders said. “I have no idea what I am going to be doing, but hopefully I have learned a few things along the way that I can pass on to beginning filmmakers. Even if it’s just when to give naughty actors a time out.”
The lab participants were chosen from more than 140 submissions based on a submitted script, letter of intent and the strength of previous directing experience in film or theater.
The participants and their projects are Jim Frohna, “Hunting Season”; Kamala Lopez-Dawson, “The Contract”; Monique Matthews, “Inventing Don Juan”; Samuel Park, “Shakespeare Sonnets”; V Prasad, “Radha’s Prayer”; and Kat Smith, “El Paso.”
IFP/West is also seeking submissions for the Spring Screenwriters Lab, which will run during May and June. In the seven-week program, participants meet twice weekly to discuss their scripts. For more information and an application form, call Josh Welsh at 310/475-4379, ext. 53.
