Father Frank Desiderio has been named prexy of the Humanitas Prize Organization.
Humanitas will hold its 2001 awards luncheon on June 28, recognizing writers of films and television programs that entertain as well as enrich the viewing public. Past honorees include “The West Wing,” “NYPD Blue” and “Frasier,” as well as features such as “October Sky” and “The Insider.”
Desiderio tapped Chris Donahue as executive director. “Chris joins us with a thorough understanding of Humanitas and with strong credential in the industry,” he said.
Humanitas offers Master Writer workshops. This year they will be led by David Franzoni (“Gladiator,” “Amistad”), Peter Casey (“Frasier,” Cheers”) and Barbara Hall (“Judging Amy,” “Chicago Hope”).
The deadline for submissions for this year’s awards is April 1.
Humanitas’ Father Ellwood “Bud” Kieser, who created the awards in 1974, died in September.
