Films Distribution, Italy's Story takes rights to drama

CANNES — French sales company Films Distribution has picked up worldwide rights to Spanish competition player “Pau and His Brother” (Pau i el Seu Germa), which screens today. Italy’s Story, run by Amadeo Pagani, has taken Italian rights on the drama.

“Pau” is an 80-20 co-production between Antonio Chavarrias’ Oberon Cinematografica in Barcelona and Paris’ JBA Prods., headed by vet producer Jacques Bidou.

Directed by Marc Recha, and filmed in Catalan and French, the Pyrenees-set “Pau” charts a man’s investigation into his brother’s suicide.

Oberon has three other pics in the works. First to roll is the $2 million “Aro Tolbukhin,” about a serial killer, which is a three-hander from Agusti Villaronga, Lydia Zimmerman and Isaac Racine set for a July shoot.

Oberon’s Chavarrias plans to direct two pics: “Quedate,” about the reunion of two brothers, and “Las Vidas de Celia.”

FD has two other films in official sections at Cannes: Marion Hansell’s “Clouds” in Critics Week and Sebastian Lifshitz’s “The Crossing” in Directors Fortnight.
