FilmFour taps prod’n topper

McAleesecomes in with a 'hands-on' reputation

Peter McAleese has been appointed head of physical production for FilmFour, U.K. broadcaster Channel 4’s wholly owned film company, to replace Caroline Hewitt, who is leaving to again become an independent producer.

McAleese produced “Twin Town,” co-produced “Spice World: The Movie” and was line producer on Working Title Films’ “Bridget Jones’s Diary,” starring Renee Zellwegger, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth, for Universal and Miramax. He most recently co-produced Gillies MacKinnon’s feature “The Escapist.”

“We are sad to see Caroline go,” said Paul Webster, chief executive of FilmFour. “She has expertly steered high profile projects like ‘Charlotte Gray’ and ‘Buffalo Soldiers’ and I have no doubt we will be working with her soon as an independent producer. And we are delighted to welcome Peter McAleese, who comes to us with an impressive track record and reputation as a true hands-on filmmaker.”

FilmFour’s upcoming slate includes “Lucky Break,” directed by Peter Cattaneo, and “Crush,” directed by John McKay starring Andie MacDowell, Imelda Staunton and Anna Chancellor.
