David Hoberman and Ashok Amritraj’s Hyde Park Entertainment has tapped Jason Filardi to pen the original screenplay “The Understudy,” based on an idea by Richard Kraft and Randy Rogel.
A comedy set in the world of Broadway, “Understudy” follows a desperate young thespian who accepts two simultaneous understudy jobs — an assignment that becomes one gig too many when both leads fall ill.
Hoberman and Amritraj will produce the pic, along with Kraft and Allison Abbate. Todd Lieberman will oversee the project for the company.
Filardi has also set up his screenplay “In the Houze” at Disney, with Hyde Park producing. That project is being steered by Disney’s Jason Reed and Kristin Burr.
Hyde Park’s upcoming slate includes the Angelina Jolie/Antonio Banderas starrer “Original Sin”; “What’s the Worst That Could Happen,” starring Martin Lawrence and Danny DeVito; and “Bandits,” with Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton.
