PARK CITY, Utah — Miramax Films is in final negotiations to shell out roughly $2 million for the domestic rights to first-time helmer Todd Field’s drama “In the Bedroom,” screening in Sundance’s dramatic competition section.

Film had attracted interest from Universal Focus, Fox, Artisan, Lions Gate and Catch 23.

Pic, fully financed by Gotham-based GreeneStreet Films, was co-produced by GreeneStreet and Good Machine. Good Machine Intl. is handling foreign rights to the pic and has already sold rights in Italy, Spain, Turkey, the former Yugoslavia, Greece, Mexico and Venezuela.

Family drama

“Bedroom,” penned by Robert Festinger and Field, is described as a resonant drama focusing on the challenges facing an upper-middle-class New England family. Film stars Tom Wilkinson, Sissy Spacek, Nick Stahl, Marisa Tomei, William Mapother and William Wise.

Todd Field has broken onto the scene at the highest level with this moving and mature feature debut,” said Mentre. “It is especially exciting to be joining forces with our accomplished New York neighbors, Good Machine and GreeneStreet, on this project.”

Deal was negotiated by Agnes Mentre, Miramax’s executive veep of acquisitions and co-productions, and Andrew Herwitz, senior veep of business affairs and acquisitions. Jeffrey Tahler, director of acquisitions, helped in the acquisition.

IFC jumps

Joel Hopkins’ “Jump Tomorrow” has sold to IFC Films, which will handle domestic rights. France’s ARP earlier this week seized the pic’s French rights. FilmFour, which produced and financed the movie, will release it in the U.K.

Deal was negotiated on the film’s behalf by Sue Bruce-Smith, director of worldwide sales and marketing for FilmFour, and Tim Perell, co-president of Eureka Pictures. Jonathan Sehring, prexy of IFC Entertainment, negotiated on IFC’s behalf.

Pic, which screened in the American Spectrum section of the fest, is a road movie that weaves reality and fantasy into a romantic comedy. Pic was produced by Nicola Usborne and exec produced by Perell and Film Four’s Paul Webster. IFC plans to release the pic this summer.
