BERLIN — A day after Belgium’s “Everybody Famous” received a foreign-language film Oscar nom, Mercure Distribution has closed a string of deals on the Dominic Deruddere-helmed pic.

“Famous,” screening in the market at the Berlin Film Festival, has been picked up by Sony Pictures Classics for French-speaking Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Miramax acquired the film for the U.S. and English-speaking Canada. It already has sold to Brazil, Mexico, Italy, Germany and Switzerland.

Movie is about a father who kidnaps Belgium’s best-known singer in a bid to set his daughter up with a singing career of her own.
