NEW YORK — Aaron Eckhart is headed for the center of the Earth, signing to star in “The Core,” the Jon Amiel-directed science fiction film quickly coming together at Paramount.
In “The Core,” Eckhart will lead a mission to the Earth’s center, where they hope to correct a flaw that was caused by chemical waste reaction. The terranauts must place and detonate a nuclear charge to fix a magnetic field in the earth that will cause the planet to explode.
The film is being produced by David Foster and co-produced by Sean Bailey and Cooper Layne and is one of the few studio films prepping for starts before year’s end, with the studio looking to cast up an ensemble around Eckhart.
The actor, whose recent starring credits include “Erin Brockovich” and “Any Given Sunday,” will next be seen starring alongside Gwyneth Paltrow in the USA Films drama “Possession,” directed by Neil LaBute.
Eckhart is repped by CAA and Anonymous Content’s Scott Bankston.
