Pic based on book about $12 mil gambling spree
Minnie Driver will star opposite Philip Seymour Hoffman in “Owning Molony” for Alliance Atlantis Motion Pictures. Pre-strike pic is the first feature from helmer Richard Kwietniowski since his debut, “Love and Death on Long Island,” three years ago.
Kwietniowski and Maurice Chauvet’s script is based on Gary Ross’ nonfiction book “Stung.” Driver will portray the girlfriend of Brian Molony (Hoffman), a mild-mannered Toronto bank manager with a gambling problem who was given unsupervised access to a $20 million account — and gambled away $12 million of it over 18 months.
Alliance Atlantis prexy Seaton McLean will produce the black comedy with Andras Hamori’s H2O Motion Pictures and Edward R. Pressman Corp.’s Alessandro Camon. Pressman and Sean Furst serve as exec producers.
Driver was most recently seen in “Return to Me” and “Beautiful.”
