Maguire to direct romantic comedy based on Medwed's novel
LONDON — Sharon Maguire, director of “Bridget Jones’s Diary,” is attached to direct “Mail,” a romantic comedy set in Boston that Archer Street Prods. is developing for FilmFour.
Playwright Wendy Wasserstein (“The Object of My Affection”) is writing the screenplay, based on Mameve Medwed’s novel about a struggling writer who falls for her mailman.
Pic is described as a “modern-day, Jane Austen-style comedy of manners.” Maguire brought the book to Archer Street and FilmFour.
“This is a perfect film for Sharon,” Archer Street’s Andy Paterson said. “It’s a romantic comedy with a twist, and she has an instinctive understanding that comedy only works if you really care about the characters.”
