Dempsey finds ‘Sweet Home’

Moritz to shepherd pic

Patrick Dempsey is in negotiations and Josh Lucas is set to co-star opposite Reese Witherspoon in “Sweet Home Alabama,” for director Andy Tennant and Touchstone Pictures.

Pic, originally penned by C. Jay Cox and rewritten by Tennant and Rick Parks, is being produced by Neal Moritz. Tennant’s producing partners Jon Jashni and Wink Mordaunt will be involved in a producing capacity as well.

Dempsey, repped by CAA and manager Joni Burstein, most recently wrapped production on the Michael Hoffman-helmed “The Palace Thief,” for Beacon Communications and Universal Pictures. He is also a recurring character on the ABC drama “Once and Again.”

Lucas, repped by ICM, most recently wrapped production on Imagine Entertainment/Universal’s Xmas release “A Beautiful Mind,” starring Russell Crowe for director Ron Howard.
