Nascent shingle Dakota Pictures has sold pic “Run Ronnie Run” to New Line Cinema and snatched up the spec script “Swinging on a Star.”
The Hollywood-based Dakota produced “Run” along with Mark Burg and Oren Koules. Troy Miller served as a producer and helmed the comedy. Bob Odenkirk, David Cross, Brian Posehn, BJ Porter and Scott Auckerman co-wrote, with Bernie Brillstein, Tim Starkes, Carl Mazzocone, Michael DeLuca and Richard Brenner exec producers.
Story centers on the rise of a belligerent loudmouth, who with the help of a British TV producer, becomes famous after his multiple arrests on a cops-style TV show. New Line plans an April release.
“Swinging on a Star,” penned by Kathy Gori and Alan Berger, is a potential directing vehicle for Miller. It’s a dark comedy about a family of California highway patrolmen, centering on two cousins who find themselves wife-swapping.
Miller’s “The Announcement,” shot on high definition, was recently selected as the closing night film of the U.K’s Greenwich Film Festival.
