Willem Dafoe has inked a deal to topline opposite Antonio Banderas in the upcoming Dimension/Sony co-production of “Once Upon a Time in Mexico: Desperado 2.”
Dafoe, who was recently nominated for the Academy Award for best supporting actor for his performance in Lions Gate’s “Shadow of the Vampire,” is currently in production on Columbia Pictures’ “Spider-Man” as the villainous Green Goblin.
Three weeks ago, Sony sold half its stake in “Desperado 2” to Dimension Films, which will handle all international sales on the pic; Col will retain domestic rights. (Daily Variety, May 8, 2001)
Original pic, produced by Robert Rodriguez and Bill Borden, grossed $25 million domestically.
Dafoe was repped in the deal by the William Morris Agency in Gotham.
