Cinema Arts nabs ‘Gabriela’

Indie earns nearly $1 mil since March 16 bow

After seeing the low-flying indie “Gabriela” earn nearly $1 million since its March 16 release through Power Point Films, foreign sales company Cinema Arts Entertainment has picked up the pic for international distribution.

Written and directed by Vincent Jay Miller, “Gabriela” is a Latino-themed romance set against the backdrop of a mental health clinic. Pic stars Seidy Lopez (“Selena”) and Jamie Gomez (“Crimson Tide”).

“Gabriela” is currently in release in Texas and will roll out to 80 more cities. Pic has earned $878,000 to date and is expected to top $2 million.

Vincent Francillon launched independent production and distribution company Power Point with the acquisition of “Gabriela” (Daily Variety, Sept. 1, 2000). Power Point is bankrolled by private investors in Germany, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Outfit plans to release one to two films annually.
