Belmondo cleared to leave hospital

World Brief

Thesp Jean-Paul Belmondo was discharged from Paris’ St. Joseph’s hospital Wednesday, two weeks after being admitted with a stroke.

The French actor sustained speech loss and some paralysis but showed a “remarkable capacity for recovery,” a statement from the hospital said. He will continue to receive physical therapy.

The star of Jean-Luc Godard’s classic “Breathless” and dozens of other French movies fell ill while on vacation in Corsica. He will be on Gallic TV this fall in the new TF1 series “Ferchaux,” with Sami Naceri (“Taxi 2”).
