All-‘American’ winner at Nantucket fest

Moodysson keeps it 'Together' for writer-director award

Eva Gardos’ “An American Rhapsody” picked up the audience award for best feature, as well as the Perrier Bubbling Under award for a promising first-time director, as the sixth annual Nantucket Film Festival wrapped over the weekend.

“Rhapsody,” starring Nastassja Kinski, Scarlett Johansson and Tony Goldwyn, centers on a mother-daughter relationship troubled by a history of exile and involuntary abandonment. Pic was produced by Seven Arts/Fireworks Pictures and will be released by Par Classics in August and will open the Karlovy Vary film fest on July 5.

Among other closing night awards, Lukas Moodysson won the writer-director award for “Together,” J.T. Petty got an honorable mention for distinctive vision for “Soft for Digging,” Michael J. Connolly and John Stimpson’s “The Gentleman From Boston” was named runner-up for the best feature nod, Tessa Blake’s “Project A.L.S.” won best short and David Briggs and Todd Downing’s “Jeffrey’s Hollywood Screen Trick” was named runner-up for best short.

The world preem of Brad Anderson’s “Session Nine,” starring David Caruso and distribbed by USA Films, closed the fest.

Event also featured a tribute to Walter Bernstein and dramatic readings by Tate Donovan, Griffin Dunne, John Benjamin Hickey, Fisher Stevens and Marisa Tomei.
