HOLLYWOOD — The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Scientific and Technical awards committee has narrowed down the list of sci/tech award contenders for this year’s Oscar race to 25.
“We announce these achievements so that claims of prior invention or of similar technology can be reviewed to determine whether they should also be included in our consideration,” committee chair Richard Edlund said Thursday.
Deadline for such notification is Sept. 28.
Among those companies being considered are Industrial Light and Magic, Pixar Animation, Zaxcom and Kodak. Visit www.oscar.org for a full list.
Demonstration of selected achievements will be conducted on Oct. 23 in the Acad’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
Committee will convene Dec. 5 to vote award recommendations to the Academy’s board of governors, which will make the final decisions.
The Scientific and Technical Awards will be presented at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills on March 2.
The 74th annual Academy Awards will be held March 24 at Oscar’s new home: the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.
