Virginia fest will fete Pollack, Rowlands

'Masquerade' to screen impostor, con artists, gender-bender pix

Sydney Pollack, Gena Rowlands, Henry Jaglom and Victoria Foyt will be feted at the 14th Virginia Festival, skedded Oct. 25-28 in Charlottesville, Va.

Officially titled “Masquerade,” this year’s event will screen pics that feature characters whose identities involve performances, including impostors, con artists, actors and race- and gender-benders.

A retrospective of Pollock’s work, including a special screening of “Tootsie,” will be featured along with screenings of Rowlands’ collaborations with late husband John Cassavetes.

Maverick helmer Jaglom, whose improvisational style has often been compared with that of Cassavetes, will be on hand to discuss “Last Summer in the Hamptons” and “Deja Vu” with Foyt, who co-wrote and starred in both pics.

Regional premieres of note include Irwin Winkler’s Kevin Kline starrer “Life as a House,” Peter Bogdanovich’s “The Cat’s Meow,” Henry Bean’s “The Believer,” Jem Cohen and Peter Sillen’s “Benjamin Smoke” and Pierre-Paul Renders’ “Thomas in Love.”
