Unrest sinks film fest

World Brief

The 32nd Intl. Film Festival of India, to be held in Bangalore Oct. 10-20, has been canceled in the wake of the terrorist attacks in the U.S.

The government of Karnataka state, which was co-financing the event with the Directorate of Film Festivals, fears repercussions in the region if the United States launches a reprisal attack on accused terrorist Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan.

Highlights of the fest are the Golden Peacock Awards and a competitive section for Asian films.
