HOLLYWOOD — The 2002 Sundance Film Festival has issued its call for entries. Deadline for American dramatic and documentary feature film submissions is 5 p.m. Sept. 28. Deadline for short films and international features is 5 p.m. Sept. 21.

All films submitted for competition also are considered for the American Spectrum, Frontier, Native Forum and Park City at Midnight festival sections. The 2002 fest runs Jan. 10-20, a week earlier than previous events to accommodate the Winter Olympics, being held in Salt Lake City.

The competition is open to independently produced dramatic and documentary features. Eligible entries must be U.S. premieres, have at least 50% U.S. financing and have been completed after October 2000. Their running time must be no less than 70 minutes, while documentary features must be no less than 50 minutes.

Films selected to screen in dramatic and docu competition are eligible for a number of jury awards, including the Grand Jury Prize, the cinematography award and the director’s award.

Other jury awards include the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award, presented to a film in the dramatic competition, and the Freedom of Expression Award, given to a film in the docu competition. Films in competition and American Spectrum also are eligible for the audience awards.

Dramatic films under 70 minutes in length and docu films of less than 50 minutes are eligible to participate in the shorts, Frontier and Native Forum programs.

American short films under 30 minutes compete for a jury prize. International entries also are considered for participation in World Cinema, Frontier, Native Forum and Park City at Midnight. Films selected to screen in World Cinema compete for the World Audience Award. A jury prize in Latin American Cinema is presented to a feature-length film from Latin America.
