Spain’s ‘Gijon’ announces sidebars

World Brief

Spain’s distribution launching pad for edgy, indie fare, the Gijon Intl. Film Festival, has announced its major sidebars: tributes to Barcelona-based director Jose Luis Guerin (“Los motivos de Berta,” “The Roads to Innisfree,” “Work in Progress”), New York director-photographer Richard Kern (“Goodbye 42nd Street,” “Submit to Me,” “Death Valley 69”) and Japanese yakuza cinema master Seijun Sujuki.

The 49th fest, which runs Nov. 23-30, will also bow the New Cinema Project, taking an in-depth look at new cinema movements. This year’s panorama will focus on Britain’s Free Cinema and modern realist pics.
