Slamdance unveils script winners

Fechter's 'Woodsman' takes top prize

The Slamdance Film Festival has announced winners of its sixth annual Slamdance screenplay competition. First place was awarded to “The Woodsman” by Steven Fechter; Barbara Marshall’s “War” took second; and Joshua Marston’s “Maria Full of Grace” tied with Lonnee Hamilton’s “The River” for third.

Aside from cash prizes, winners will receive consultation from the Screenwriters Room and software packages. Slamdance also awarded a recognition of excellence to two scripts: “Moundville” by Kristine Levine and “Cut Off” by Roger Aylward.

The competition’s 12 finalists will gain introduction to various studios, production companies, agencies and listings on Web sites such as Writers’ Script Network, StoryXchange and Script Pimp. This year’s finalists will also participate in Slamdance’s first reading series Oct. 8 at L.A.’s Knitting Factory.
