ShowEast to honor Sands, Gill

Trade show acknowledges film industry achievement

HOLLYWOOD — Miramax worldwide distribution chairman Rick Sands and Miramax L.A. prexy Mark Gill will be honored jointly with the Show “E” award at ShowEast 2001, trade show organizers said Wednesday.

The duo will receive the award at a Nov. 3 gala in Orlando, Fla., that’s set to cap the five-day exhibition event. The honor is bestowed annually to acknowledge film industry achievement.

“The relationship between distribution and marketing is integral in the successful release of any film, and the joint distribution of this award to Sands and Gill serves to further reaffirm Miramax Films’ commitment to excellence,” organizers said.

Sands joined Miramax in 1990 after 12 years with Columbia Pictures. Gill joined Miramax in 1994 after a six-year stint at Columbia and TriStar.

Previous recipients of the Show “E” award include Disney’s Phil Barlow, Paramount’s Wayne Lewellen and Sony’s Jeff Blake .
