Fest to feature more than 50 films
NEW DELHI — New Delhi’s Asian film festival Cinefan 3 will kick off Sunday with “Clouds of May,” by Turkey’s Nuri Bilge Ceylan. Supported by local government, the fest will feature more than 50 films and will include a special focus on Turkey.
A 12-pic Asian Panorama section will be judged by an international jury including Sumitra Peries from Sri Lanka, Sharmila Tagore (India), Nana Djorjadze (Georgia), Pouran Derakhshandesh (Iran) and Philip Cheah (Singapore).
Other features, added to the fest this year, are a section on European pics shot in Asia and a special on Iranian movies.
The best film award will be presented by Information and Broadcasting Minister Sushma Swaraj on closing night, Sept. 2.
The Indian government has further pledged continued promotion and funding for the fest, which is organized by New Delhi-based Cinemaya, a quarterly Asian film magazine.
