Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep has signed on to play a small role in the Steven Spielberg helmed “Minority Report,” which starts production today.
The Fox-DreamWorks co-production stars Tom Cruise and Colin Farrell.
Based on a short story by sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick (“Blade Runner”), “Minority Report” is set in a futuristic judicial system in which killers are arrested and convicted before they commit murder.
Screenplay was written by Gary Goldman, Ronald Shusett and Scott Frank.
Streep most recently worked on the upcoming Spike Jonze comedy “Adaptation.”
Her other recent screen credits include “Music of the Heart” and “Marvin’s Room.” Streep is repped by CAA.
Fox will handle worldwide theatrical and international homevideo on “Minority Report,” while DreamWorks will handle the rights for domestic homevid and worldwide television. No release date has been set.
