Dances With Films stays true to 'indie' label, scoffs at commercialism
“No politics. No stars. No sh*t.” That’s what Leslee Scallon and Michael Trent, co-founders of the Dances With Films Festival, boast about their annual event geared towards celebrating the “truly independent” film scene. Openly favoring struggling, unknown filmmakers, Dances With Films has grown in popularity since its humble beginnings in 1998. Held over six days at “The Lot” in West Hollywood this year, the film fest’s award ceremony took place on the final evening, giving nods to audience favorites, best features, shorts and screenplays, and runners-up.
