Lions Gate Prods. has greenlit “Cube 2: Hypercube,” the sequel to the 1997 “Cube.” “Cube 2” will be directed by “Pulp Fiction” cinematographer Andrzej Sekula, with Lions Gate Intl. handling foreign sales.
Story centers on eight strangers who wake in a cube-shaped room and don’t know how they got there. They soon realize their survival is dependent on unlocking the secrets of the “hypercube,” which operates in the fourth dimension where the laws of physics don’t apply.
Written by Sean Hood (“The Darklings”), Ernie Barabash and Lauren McLaughlin, “Cube 2” will be produced by Barabash (“American Psycho”). Alex Sanger will oversee the project for Lions Gate, with production expected to begin later this summer.
“Cube” was released stateside by Trimark Pictures, which Lions Gate acquired last year. The original’s helmer, Vincenzo Natali, is now shooting Pandora Films’ “Company Man” starring Jeremy Northam and Lucy Liu.
