CANNES — Susan Glatzer, former senior VP of acquisitions and production for USA Films, has been appointed VP acquisitions for the Paramount Pictures Motion Picture Group.
Glatzer fills the post of John Ferraro, formerly Paramount senior VP of acquisitions and production, after an extensive search for his replacement. Ferraro exited Par in June 2000 after more than 12 years as an acquisitions exec there.
Glatzer will report directly to Rob Friedman, vice chairman of Paramount Pictures Motion Picture Group. She’ll be responsible for acquiring finished features for both domestic and international distribution as well as pre-buying scripts and looking for co-productions.
“It’s exciting to be involved with a company with such a rich history. I couldn’t be happier,” Glatzer said.
“We are thrilled to have someone with Susan’s understanding of acquisitions join our team,” Friedman said. “She brings an abundance of expertise and a solid reputation to us at Paramount.”
Before joining Par, Glatzer moved into her post at USA Films after the merger of Gramercy Pictures, Polygram and October Films. She joined October in 1995 to head acquisitions and production.
During her tenure at USA and October, Glatzer helped acquire such projects as Robert Duvall’s “The Apostle,” Lars von Trier’s “Breaking the Waves,” Thomas Vinterberg’s “The Celebration,” Lisa Cholodenko’s “High Art” and Mike Leigh’s “Secrets and Lies” and “Topsy-Turvy.”
