CANNES — Dan Minahan (“Series 7”) is developing an untitled thriller set in contempo Los Angeles for USA Films.
Project reteams Minahan with USA, which acquired and released the reality-series satire “Series 7,” and that film’s producers, Christine Vachon and Katie Roumel of Killer Films.
Although the plot is closely guarded, Minahan — who will also write the script — is currently in Los Angeles researching how actors behave around their fans.
Steven Raphael, USA’s senior VP of acquisitions and co-productions, brought the project into the company.
Prior to “Series 7,” which he developed at the 1997 Sundance Writers Lab, Minahan co-wrote and served as second unit director on Mary Harron’s “I Shot Andy Warhol.” He also produced television documentary segments, profiles and features in the U.K. and the U.S.
Deal was negotiated by USA’s Avy Eschanasy, exec VP of business affairs, with Minahan repped by CAA and managers Widescreen.
