Woman tries to overcome addiction in Dahl-penned comedy

CANNES — Manifest Pictures, the production shingle of Lisa Henson, Janet Yang and Naomi Despre, has struck a development deal for the movie project “Accidentally on Purpose” with Sky Pictures, the film arm of U.K. satcaster BSkyB.

The $8 million pic is a fish-out-of-water comedy written by Lucy Dahl.

It’s the story of a British woman who retreats to the Hamptons in an attempt to shake off her addiction to affairs with married men. But, of course, things don’t go exactly to plan.

Manifest’s recent credits include “The Weight of Water.” Henson was formerly president of production at Columbia.

The deal marks a further advance in the development of Sky’s production strategy. The arm recently announced a co-financing deal for Brit pics with U.K. distrib Momentum Pictures.

Sky Pictures also has struck an overall deal for film development with Elisabeth Murdoch’s new outfit, Shine Entertainment.
