Andres Vicente Gomez’s Lolafilms has made the first step in turning its huge local hit, James Bond parody “Torrente 2,” into an international franchise.
With $17 million and still counting at the Spanish B.O. “Torrente 2” is the highest-grossing Spanish pic ever.
Gomez is in talks with French producer Thomas Langmann (“La Petite Reine”) to co-produce a Gallic-lingo version of “Torrente” with a French director, writer and comedian playing the barrel-chested, eminently corruptible sleazebag gumshoe Torrente.
Gomez has also initiated conversations with Kinowelt Medien and Constantin Films for a German “Torrente,” and aims to co-produce Mexican, Italian and Brit versions, Gomez said at Cannes.
