Laemmle skeds Oscar shorts

Weekend program brainchild of Apollo Cinema

Starting this weekend, Laemmle’s Monica Theater in Santa Monica launches a program featuring all eight of this year’s Oscar-nominated short films. Program will run for four consecutive weekends on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m.

Project is the brainchild of Apollo Cinema, an L.A.-based company that distributes international short films, and its president, Carol Crowe.

This year’s crop of live-action shorts are “Seraglio” (U.S.), “By Courier” (U.S.), “One Day Crossing” (Hungary), “Quiero Ser” (Mexico-Germany) and “Uma Historia de Futebol” (Brazil).

The animated shorts are “Father and Daughter” (U.K.); “The Periwig-Maker” (Germany/U.K.); and “Rejected” (U.S.).
